The Literacy Guild (TLG) is a K-12 literacy development center providing high quality reading and writing instruction in small group learning environments with the goal of preparing students for college level writing and empowering them to use the written word to express themselves.
Curriculum and instruction at TLG is built upon the core theory that human learning is a complex and dynamic system, that development of critical thinking, reading, and writing can be best fostered through apprenticeship learning where students are coached by a more experienced and knowledgeable guide, the teacher.
A central aspect of the curriculum is publication of student writing, which provides students an authentic and organic purpose and motivation for writing, fostering their continued literacy and intellectual development.
Company History
The Literacy Guild (TLG) was founded in 2006 by Dr. Tina Tsai, Ph.D. After receiving a B.A. in Psychology from Claremont McKenna College, an M.A. in Education from Claremont Graduate University, and a Ph.D. in Education from the University of Southern California. Dr. Tsai continues to develop and improve the TLG program based upon over 20 years of professional teaching experience, current and foundational research, and a passion to help students reach their highest potentials. TLG has expanded from physical class locations to offering online classes, helping students far and wide in developing their ability to write effectively and creatively for academic, civic, and cultural purposes.
